For around 2 years we've been working on Namave, a 3D adventure puzzle game where the main character is researching a mysterious world. Here, matter changes its state depending on the kind of light it reflects.
Namave will find some glasses along her way, that filter out one of the colors of the world. This allows her to interact with it in different ways depending on the glasses she's wearing.
The mechanics of the game work as a metaphor for cultural relativity. The different ways in which people and different cultures understand reality, is the core topic of the game.
Namave finds puzzles that seem impossible to solve due to apparent contradictions in the way the different views work. Eventually the player will understand how the different points of view fit together.
The game also contains some narrative elements that follow this same topic. Namave will find some representatives of the different peoples that explain her in more detail how their world works.
The dialog system in the game allows the player to take some decisions about how they talk to the different characters. This will have certain consequences in how the game develops.
The assets in Namave are done using Blender and the programing using rin, a custom game engine that has been developed while we were doing the game. While we finish what is left of the game we'll be posting some details in this devlog and our twitter and instagram accounts.
